Freeriding in Gastein

The Gastein Valley is one of the most beautiful and varied freeride insider tips in Austria. As state-certified ski instructors and ski guide Andreas Schafflinger, shows you the powder hot spots. Deep powder snow guarantees fun and action on the deep-snow slopes. In spring, when the temperatures rise, you can expect fantastic firn descents. There are international contests organised. In 2017 and 2018 Gastein was the venue of the Open Faces Freeride Contest. The next event takes places in spring 2019.

Freeriding from beginners to professionals

Whether beginner, advanced or freeride freak, we have the right offer for you. Feeride lessons can be booked as private lesson or group lessons. For ultimate fun and due to the safety aspect in the terrain, group courses are limited to a maximum of 6 people.

Safety is our top priority, therefore not only the right equipment but also the right planning is crucial. This depends on your own ability as well as the current snow and weather conditions. The best deep snow is caught in the morning, which is why we are happy to start the ski day at 8:30/9:00 a.m. on request.

Safety Training with Skischule Gastein

In addition to fun and action, safety must be the top priority for every freerider. This includes not only the right equipment in the terrain but also the right planning is crucial. For our guests we therefore offer special safety trainings, where not only the explanation and handling of the emergency equipment but also the correct handling of the LVS search is practiced.

The Gasteiner Bergbahnen have set up an infobase for freeriders near the Kaserebenbahn mountain station and in Sportgastein. Here you can find all important information (avalanche warning level, outdoor screen with current avalanche situation report, rules of conduct, topographical map, avalanche transceiver – checker, …). In Sportgastein you also have the possibility to train the LVS search at any time and free of charge at the avalanche training center.

Schlossalm - Stubnerkogel

The freeride area Schlossalm-Stubnerkogel attracts with a variety of variants and is ideal for deep snow beginners or kids. But it also has a lot to offer professionals. The run down from Mauskarkopf is one of the freeride highlights on the Schlossalm.

Sportgastein

In Sportgastein, the peaks reaching up to 2,686 meters. Sportgastein offers endless fun for free-riders. This Freeride place is especially a tip in spring, as you can find great powder and firn snow until late in the ski season due to the altitude.

Schareck

An absolute highlight for all freeriders is the run from the Schareck to Sportagastein. In the morning we take the train to Mallnitz. From there we take a taxi to the Mölltal glacier. Arrived at the summit of the Schareck, a 1,400 Hm long run awaits you to Sportgastein.
